This summer was a busy one for the DebMed team. In June, we exhibited at the Association for the Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) 2018 Annual Conference. The conference, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, saw thousands of infection preventionists, and healthcare professionals attend to discuss the latest technologies, scientific advancements and infection prevention strategies.
During the tradeshow, DebMed showcased several new products while unveiling our new SC Johnson Professional branding for the first time. SC Johnson Professional recently integrated their well-known brands and innovative professional products with the DebMed hand hygiene compliance and skin care suite, making our booth a new and exciting place to visit.
APIC attendees were able to learn about our latest products, including Alcare® Extra Foaming Hand Sanitizer, Kindest Kare® Advanced Antimicrobial Foaming Handwash and the SC Johnson Professional TruShot™ Mobile Dispensing System for non-disinfectant cleaner chemistries and TruFill™ dispensing system.
Our DebMed experts demonstrated our award-winning Electronic Hand Hygiene Compliance System as well. At the booth, visitors could see first-hand how the clinically-proven, cost-effective system works by measuring compliance performance based on WHO and CDC guidelines.
In August, we announced The Hand Hygiene Compliance Recognition Award. The award was created to acknowledge hospitals that take great measures to improve hand hygiene compliance and prioritize patient safety.
New-Jersey based Atlantic Health System received this year’s inaugural award for having the “cleanest hands in healthcare” due to its high level of sustained hand hygiene compliance. In 2015, the Atlantic Health System implemented the DebMed Electronic Hand Hygiene Compliance System with an initial goal to decrease healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and accurately measure hand hygiene compliance.
The participating units met and exceeded their goal by increasing compliance by 46.2 percent and found a strong connection between improving compliance and decreasing infections. Today, the DebMed system is used in all six of Atlantic Health System’s hospitals, achieving a sustained 57 percent improvement over baseline during a 12-month period. We are extremely proud to present the award to Atlantic Health and look forward to honouring more healthcare facilities for their impressive hand hygiene rates in the future.
To cap off a successful summer, our Vice President of Marketing , Ron Chappuis, was featured in Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare, discussing The Joint Commission’s new focus on improving healthcare hand hygiene compliance. The article highlights the importance of healthcare staff stepping up their hand hygiene game to increase patient safety, enhance the quality of care and improve economic outcomes.
However, just because summer is over doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. In September, we’ll attend the Fall IND Summit in Phoenix, Arizona and the Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE) Exchange in Columbus, Ohio. Over the next few weeks, we’ll also gear up to celebrate Global Handwashing Day, Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW) and International Infection Prevention Week 2018 (IIPW). Starting on Oct. 14, this year’s IIPW will kick off with the theme of “Protecting Patients Everywhere,” encouraging healthcare professionals to raise awareness for the role infection prevention plays in improving patient safety. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements, and join us on November 1st 2018 for an educational webinar with infection prevention thought leader, Connie Steed!
