The call for evidence-based quality improvement in healthcare underscores the need for realigning care to make it more effective, safe, and efficient – for patients and for care providers. One way to do this is to consider how evidence-based practice (EBP) is incorporated into the existing workflow. Direct care personnel are often taxed by high patient acuity and the demands of short lengths-of-stay. They often find the balance between following evidence-based guidelines, managing emerging complex infections, and focusing on quality improvement difficult. Talk about high-demand multi-tasking.
